My name is Briannah, and I am running for the position of MYP for South West Hampshire. My vision and commitment, is to improve our diverse community and ensure we live in a place where young people can flourish and feel represented. I am standing for this role because I believe in making a positive impact and bringing about important change. I love politics and social action, and I want to share my knowledge and educate other young people about what is going around them. I humbly believe that I have the passion and determination to make a difference as well as the ability and skills to effectively function as MYP if I am elected. If elected, I will maximise the opportunities I receive to implement your ideas and work hard to ensure that the discussions held, and decisions made will align with our vision and bring about positive change in areas that matter and affect us. I am passionate about a number of things that affect young people and if chosen, I would like to achieve: • Equality for all - promote equal rights and opportunities for every individual, regardless of their background or identity. • Environmental stewardship - advocate for sustainable practices and protect our planet for future generations. • Social injustice: fight against discrimination, injustice, and inequality in all forms. • Mental Health awareness: raise awareness and support for mental health issues, promoting a community hat prioritises well being and listens to all. In addition to this, I strongly believe that the council need to fix the potholes around our area and make the roads safer for pedestrians and cyclist. I also believe that the issue of flooding needs to be addressed, and in this role, I will ensure that the necessary people are spoken to and held accountable. Furthermore, I am passionate about fixing the issue of public transport. It is truly infuriating that in some areas the bus timings are infrequent and inconvenient, and I also believe that the cost is too high. I have gained experience through my role as Head Student at my secondary school as well as volunteering with the Hampshire Youth Parliament and the Youth Forum. This has equipped me with good public speaking, communication, and leadership skills - all of which I value as important for this role. The exposure I have received has enabled me to make great connections in the political world, and access to powerful change makers and as a result of this, I can ensure that your views will be portrayed. It is important to me that everyone feels as if they are being represented and that their voices and values are taken into account. Your voice matters and I will strongly advocate on issues that affect you. If elected I will ensure that everybody’s voices are heard by actively listening to your concerns and opinions. I will create open channels of communication and prioritize transparency in decision making. Together we can build a more inclusive community. Vote for Briannah!
Hi, I’m Ella. First of all, I am standing to be a member of Youth Parliament because I have always been passionate about making sure everybody gets their voice heard (especially young people who are consistently ignored by people in power) and I feel Youth Parliament could help me achieve this. I partake in lots of creative writing and performing opportunities outside of school which allows me to meet a range of different people and learn about stories that aren’t mine own, helping me understand experiences outside of my life. If I am elected, I will strive to make changes to the way young people’s mental health is viewed in Hampshire, especially by speaking to key decision makers and schools to develop a plan of action. I will regularly consult young people in my area, particularly those who aren’t often spoken to, by targeting youth groups and outside of school clubs to reach people who may not engage in education and promote their views to the best of my ability. I will also look to combat inequalities in Hampshire amongst young people by ensuring places of education know how to deal with and educate on sensitive yet crucial topics and making sure home-schooled children are included, and their well-being looked after. Seeing as there is often a prominent link between mental health and climate anxiety, I will lastly strive to promote climate awareness locally, by protecting the diverse eco system of the local area. I am passionate about making sure Hampshire is a safe place for all young people. I especially care about mental health awareness, the environment and fighting discrimination. I would love to be given the opportunity to continually fight inequalities in our systems and ensure all young people get a say in the decisions that inevitably affect them.
I would like to run as MYP for Southwest because I like to help as many people as I can, as it makes me feel a lot better that I have tried to help. I also enjoy talking to new people and thriving in new ways. But I would also like to make a difference in the way which the education system is run. I think education is such a big issue because, after Covid because many people were impacted and lost time, such as me. Even though the government used provisions to help these people it still meant that people struggled. In my year of exams (last year) the pass rate of exams dropped from 60.3% to 54.4% which may seem little but that is significant because the 2023 exams were the first exams which did not have support from Covid. So, this data is comparing young people’s results who have both been affected by Covid but one received more help than the previous year. Since this our prime minister, Rishi Sunak has announced he is going to change the education to a system like the American system called the “advanced British standard”. Which would mean that after this change A levels and T levels would be scrapped and replaced by: • students having to take some form of math and English until they are 18. • And having to take 5 on the side in one of 2 levels, ‘minor’ or ‘major’. So, for example, a student would take 3 minors and 2 majors. However, this system is not right because it is adding more pressure on students to take more subjects and this would not only be a problem for the students who want to go straight to work and people who are not suited for education settings, such as people with SEND issues. And I have seen that school is not for everyone as not everyone thrives in exams and in a setting like a school. So, I think this system should not be bought in as it creates pressure on students who may not be suited to a school setting and even though it may increase exam results, it may also put too much pressure on students and their mental health. The second issue which is important is mental health and well-being and this perfectly fits with education. There is evidence to this in data from pre Covid which 10.8% of young people in Hampshire had a probable mental health issue in 2017. However, this increased to 16% in 2020, and this shows the pressure that Covid put on young people. Young people should have easier access to the help. This could mean more funding to charities and CAMHS. Young people shouldn’t suffer alone so, I think this is an important issue that needs addressing as it affects the future generations. If I am elected, I want to try and change the system so future education system does not fail people, and it has support for everyone. Vote for Elysia!!!!
Hello intelligent voters and knowledgeable student peers. I am running in this election to try and represent the student voice and help many young people affected by recent issues. If I am elected, I will begin my work by taking numerous student recommendations on many policies that are important and will directly impact the lives of young people. I will always listen to my peer’s ideas and passions and will strive towards their goals and needs. All young people are affected by governmental policies and laws, and I think it is outrageous that young people’s opinions are not being taken into consideration when it is them that will be affected, not some rich Politian who has had their future already secured. As well as this I will focus on ways to try and improve the state of our country’s ecological situation in a matter that is sustainable and beneficial to young people across Hampshire by working heavily with local school clubs and pupils to create a united view on this pressing issue. As well as this, I will work on improving the rights of LGBTQ+ so that all young people are equal and happy. Our current government’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights iHello intelligent voters and knowledgeable student peers. As well as this, I will work on improving the rights of LGBTQ+ so that all young people are equal and happy. Our current government’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights is horrific and should be unacceptable in a modern-day society. This has to change, and it will with me. I would also ensure that students with ADHD and autism are helped and supported in mainstream schools. I will do this by encouraging more ADHD and autistic training in mainstream schools so that every student can thrive in their school environment. I also want to raise more money in Hampshire for low-income country supporting charities. This will be done by increasing fund raising in schools and creating petitions for the government to support more low-income countries and increase humanitarian support in places like Gaza and Ukraine.
I’m Sarp, and I am running for MYP to ensure that all student voices are heard and, most importantly, acted upon, regardless of background or circumstances. I aim to represent the actual concerns of students on all important topics, whether it is about education, youth programs, or anything else. I am most passionate about improving the lives of fellow students in Hampshire in any way that I can. In my opinion, young people are very underrepresented in politics, especially in the UK where only 47% of young people (18-24) voted in the last general election. This is a significant decrease in recent decades and significantly lower than most European countries. I hope to be the voice of these underrepresented students and will actively engage with students especially in the New Forest to advocate for realistic changes that benefit young people across Hampshire. I strongly believe in the power of student’s voices, and the impact that they can have. It is my aim to bridge the gap between the influence of students’ voices at the school and county level. I understand that there are an infinite number of very complex topics that concern young people, like climate change, humanitarian crises, and mental health awareness. However, I believe these topics are too often used as buzzwords to gather votes instead of being treated as the serious topics that they are. If elected as MYP, I will get to work on creating a real impact on these major issues and the concerns of students in the New Forest in any way possible. As the head boy of my school, I have previous experience in organising and running schemes in my school, from various mentoring programs to raising £1600+ for the British Heart Foundation. I hope to be able to use this experience for the benefit of fellow students on a county level. I am incredibly excited to have this opportunity, and I hope you will consider voting for me! Thank you for your time reading my manifesto. Vote For Sarp!
