My name is Lara, I am a 16-year-old college student and I've lived in Hampshire my whole life. I'm very passionate about our county and the young people in it. I was MYP for Hampshire last year and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, I accomplished a lot with the help of the rest of the Hampshire team. For example, I attended the Youth Parliament House of commons debate where we decided on our national campaign, I talked to the head of Hampshire CAMHS to help me start a mental health awareness campaign and I supported Hampshire Youth Parliament with our eco conference where we educated young people on the environment. One thing I aim to accomplish if re-elected is a campaign to raise awareness for eating disorders and other mental health issues. I've already started work on putting this in motion trying to gather helpful resources around Hampshire and talking to mental health professionals. Especially with the current cost of living crisis still very much present and the prevalence of social media causing body issues, young people today are still struggling with their mental health with little support. Young people deserve to have their voices heard when it comes to their own health especially with the enormous waiting list times they are subjected to when they try and get help. They need a simple and effective list of resources they can use and access at any time. Another thing I want to achieve is more access arrangements and support for disabled pupils in school, as someone with Autism and chronic pain I find school environments a real challenge and there's lots of ways schools can be improved to support students with disabilities, such as educating teachers and students with training programmes and support funding for more specialised staff and equipment. Without an EHCP it's very hard to get access arrangements in school so many disabled people go unhelped and unnoticed. The voices of disabled people often get talked over and ignored but I'm extremely passionate about championing disabled rights and want to help disabled youth however I can. The last thing I'm very passionate about is LGBTQ+ issues especially in the school environment. Us young people spend the majority of our time at school which is often a very hostile place for LGBTQ+ youth. We need to increase education on LGBTQ+ topics and teach staff in school about how to support LGBTQ+ students who may be facing bullying or struggles in their homelife as well as supplying students with better resources to access help. I achieved this at my old secondary by establishing an LGBTQ+ society which frequently aided in education within the school through assemblies, PSHE lessons and charity fundraisers but I would love to help with this in more schools around Hampshire. My time as an MYP has really helped me to learn how the system works and what things are accomplish-able, I'm very excited about the prospect of returning with many more ideas.
My campaign is ‘Swinging Sensory Support Into Schools.’ I believe that young people should be able to access sensory support in ALL schools, regardless of it being mainstream or specialist. I am campaigning for better support for young people because waiting lists are too long, and people are not able to get the help and support they need. If I got elected, I would have sensory in all schools and make school and learning a better environment for people with additional learning difficulties. Teachers NEED better training to support their students, this will make a difference. Occupational Therapy has really helped me in the past, and that’s why it’s so important that every child has the right to an education that meets their own abilities and needs. Every Child Matters! My three points are: 1. Sensory therapy available in all schools. 2. Schools receive the funding to train therapists. 3. Every child who needs sensory therapy to receive it.
Hi, I'm Peyton, and I'm standing to be a member of the Hampshire youth parliament, or HYP. I am standing for this role because I'm interested in law and politics. I love to read, play sports, and chat my friends. I'm very passionate about climate change, mental health, and child poverty. If I am elected, I will ensure young people across Hampshire have their voices heard. VOTE FOR PEYTON!!
For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about change and activism, mostly in relation to Climate Change, however I also feel passionate about many other topics, for example Mental Health and Wellbeing and Education. I have some experience in these areas already, as I am a member of my school's student council. In this role I represent the views of people within my tutor group in school. I also manage a social media account giving education, methods, and tips on how to best tackle the climate crisis, I have been managing this account for over a year. If I were elected as the Member of Youth Parliament for East Hampshire, I would voice your views and opinions and use them to make positive change. I will work closely with members of Hampshire County Council, politicians, and professionals to do this. ‘Through me, your voice will be heard, and we can make a difference.’ Like the sound of that? Then vote for me. Because... When there's a ‘Will’ there's a way.
